Editorial Process

This page explains how work is produced, checked and corrected at The Personal Finance Report USA. It is the standard our own writers and every guest contributor are held to.

Who writes here

Every article carries a byline linking to its author. We do not publish anonymously, and we do not publish under invented credentials. Where an author holds a professional qualification it is stated plainly; where they do not, no qualification is implied.

Sourcing

Every figure links to its primary source. In practice that means the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Federal Reserve, the Internal Revenue Service, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Social Security Administration, the FDIC, or the institution that issued the product being discussed.

We do not cite a secondary article reporting a number when the original is publicly available. If a figure cannot be traced to a primary source, it does not run.

Currency of information

Tax thresholds, contribution limits and interest rates change. Articles carry a published date and, where revised, a modified date. When a rule changes materially we update the article and note the change rather than quietly editing it.

What we will not do

  • Recommend a product or tool we have not checked is still operating
  • Publish a statistic without a link to where it came from
  • Present sponsored or guest content as independent editorial – see our sponsored content policy
  • Give personalised investment, tax or legal advice. We explain how things work; we are not your adviser

Independence

Guest contributions and sponsored placements are reviewed against this same standard and are labelled. Paying for a placement does not buy a recommendation, and does not exempt a draft from editing.

Corrections

We correct errors openly. See our corrections policy for how to report one and what happens next.

Use of AI

See our AI usage policy for how automated tools are and are not used in producing this site.
