Who we are
The Personal Finance Report USA is an independent publication covering personal finance in the United States: budgeting, debt, credit, housing and mortgages, retirement saving, and the finances of running a small business. What we collect
Comments. When you leave a comment we store the name, email address and comment text you submit, along with your IP address and browser user agent string. The IP and user agent are used for spam detection. An anonymised string created from your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which articles people read and how they arrive. This records pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP, device and browser type, and referring site. We do not use it to identify individual readers, and we do not combine it with any other record.
Server logs. Our host records standard access logs, including IP addresses and requested URLs, as part of normal operation and security monitoring.
Email. If you email us, we keep that correspondence so we can answer it and refer back to it. We do not add correspondents to any mailing list.
What we do not collect
We do not ask for or store financial account details, card numbers, Social Security numbers, or any other sensitive personal identifier. No page on this site requires an account to read it. If a page ever asks you for information of that kind, it is not ours.
The calculators on this site run entirely in your browser. The figures you type into them are never transmitted to us, never stored, and disappear when you close the tab.

Embedded content from other sites
Articles may embed content such as videos or social media posts. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited that other website, which may collect data about you, use cookies, and track your interaction with that embed. We have no control over what those third parties do, and their policies apply rather than ours.
Who we share data with
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for advertising. Data reaches only the service providers required to run the site: our web host, Google Analytics, and the spam filtering service that screens comments. Each acts on our instruction for that purpose alone.
How long we keep it
Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so that follow-up replies stay readable in context. Analytics data is retained on Google’s standard schedule. Email correspondence is kept while it remains relevant.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of any personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to erase it. Email [email protected] and say what you want done. We do not require you to prove a legal basis for asking. Erasure does not extend to data we are obliged to keep for legal or security reasons, and we will tell you if that applies.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional statutory rights, including under the California Consumer Privacy Act. The request address above is the right place to exercise them.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. We keep the platform and its components updated. No website can promise perfect security, and we will not pretend otherwise; what we can say is that we hold very little about you in the first place, which is the most effective protection available.
Changes
