The current position
At the time of writing, The Personal Finance Report USA has no affiliate relationships and carries no affiliate links. No link on this site earns us a commission when you click it or apply for a product.
We are publishing this page before that changes, so the standard is set in advance rather than written to justify something already in place.
If that changes
If we introduce affiliate links, all of the following will apply.
Every affiliate link will be disclosed on the page it appears on — near the link, above the fold where practical, in plain language. Not in a footer. Not in a colour chosen to be missed. The disclosure will appear before the link, so you know what you are clicking before you click it.
Affiliate links will carry the correct markup. They will be tagged so search engines and readers can identify them as paid.
A commission will never change what we say. We will not upgrade a rating, soften a criticism, or omit a cheaper competitor because one product pays and another does not. Where a product we earn nothing from is the better choice, we will say so and link to it anyway.
We will not accept commission on products we would not recommend. The test is whether we would tell a friend to use it.
A commission never costs you more. If a link ever carried a worse price than going direct, we would drop it.
Categories we will not take commission on
The same exclusions as our Advertisement Policy: payday and high-cost short-term lending, credit repair schemes that promise to remove accurate information, advance-fee loans, cryptocurrency speculation and trading signals, and any product sold on a promise of guaranteed returns.
Why this matters more here than elsewhere
Personal finance is one of the most heavily monetised subjects online, and much of what looks like independent comparison is a commission table with prose wrapped around it. That is precisely why our Disclaimer is worth reading: nothing here is personalised advice, and the products that pay the most to be recommended are frequently not the ones that suit you.
